Yemen is one of the historic cradles of coffee cultivation, shaping an origin story separate from but as foundational as Ethiopia's. Despite severe challenges including political instability, severe water scarcity, and damaged infrastructure, resilient farming communities continue to sustain their ancestral agricultural traditions.
The small-scale family estates in the mountain enclave of Qaryat Al Gharb work on steeply terraced terrain to look after these precious heirloom shrubs. Situated at a breathtaking altitude exceeding 2,200 meters above sea level, the crop benefits from an intense mountain climate that allows the endemic, ancient Jadi variety to mature very slowly, concentrating its complex sugars and rich aromatics.
To enhance these intrinsic characteristics, producers process the harvest using an innovative anaerobic natural method. By combining ancient hand-harvesting techniques with modern anaerobic fermentation inside low-oxygen tanks, they perfectly bridge the gap between heavy, sweet dark fruit and structured, clean definition.
Opening with a bright, rose-like aroma, followed by juicy notes of fresh cranberry, cassis, and sweet cherry liqueur. The cup finishes exceptionally clean, offering a balanced acidity and a smooth, chocolate-toned mouthfeel that beautifully highlights the elegance of this wonderful coffee.
